About the time we spend on architecture
Time, friend and enemy of architecture, is consolidated as the core of the project.
Not as a transforming strength of matter and beholder of the wisdom that experience concedes, but as an inseparable accomplice of the human being.
Paco, is a compromised security worker at the renown office tower Castellana 81 in Madrid, designed by architect Sainz de Oíza. Paco, every morning starts his working hours at 6:30 am, with an eternal subway journey to the station of Nuevos Ministerios. - San Chinarro is not that far, he said when they bought the apartment -.
Everyday the same routine, and if not that, Mar, his wife, takes him work by car when she has to drive by his office. Geting out of the subway/car, and looking at the floor until he gets into the tower, everyday the same story.
¿What if the New Gate House for Nuevos Ministerios is not dedicated to the careless stranger, what if we work with every single person that before or after are potential users of that space? In their comes and goes, on different speeds, we are going to remind these anonymous the time they are living in through architecture.
3 TIMES, 3 LEVELS, 3 GAZES
ONE DAY - The Sky
¿Does the project begin with a contradiction? ¿If we want to work with the sky, why are we proposing a cloud to hide it? Because the sky excites more when it appear between the clear parts of an infinite cloud.
This equipped roof will allow through some controlled light apertures, as if they were skylights, to ease "DAILY information" to user, if it rains, or the sun is shinning, looking through the cloud.
ONE YEAR - The Trees
The great protecting wrap does not have the scale to protect a person, it has been devised to protect a complete natural ecosystem, that conjugated with architecture matter, will fill with color the project as the time brings the STATIONS. Along the YEAR, the project changes with its environment, and the user will also change with it.
ONE HOUR - The Car Traffic
Between the main characters of a densified metrópoli such as Madrid, the car traffic is the best handy clock to control... "the rush hour". The new environment created below the wrap tends to embrace the user, and despite of blocking the direct vision of the cars partially, include its sound, from calm to storm, at every HOUR of the DAY.
